The hens have enjoyed skating on the pond and foraging amongst the vegetation around its edges, but egg laying has not been their highest priority - short days and cold temperatures are not their favourite. Walking on Malvern Hills Worcestershire Primroses, B&B Bromsgrove garden 13 March 2011 The sun is out, windows wide open, the ladybirds that overwinter around the windows are on the march and we have a thrush building a nest in the frost damaged bay tree, so that won’t get tidied up until much later in the year.  Our weekend guests took advantage of our local walk through Randan and Chaddesley Woods that we have put up on Walk4Life and then enjoyed a visit to the Falconry Centre nearby at Blakedown.  After one of our hearty award winning breakfasts this morning they have gone off to the Botanical Gardens at Edgbaston, Birmingham.  The wild ducks are back on the pond so I will have to get my temporary frogspawn breeding tank up and ready. Off to top up my new toy now - took delivery of a wormery from Bubblehouse Worms at the beginning of the year as part of our sustainability drive.  Must sort out a new water butt, another casualty of the winter - didn’t think to draw some water off when we had the extreme cold temperatures so it burst.  Guess what I’m getting for my birthday! Muntjac deer in B&B Bromsgrove 16 March 2011 Not the best of photos, but getting one of a Muntjac is a big challenge because they are so shy.  Our B&B garden attracts lots of wildlife all year round, most of whom seem to enjoy wrecking gardening efforts.  Met up with one of my Farmstay colleagues yesterday for a coffee at Worcester Woods Country Park.  Delicious cakes!  Lots to do there for everybody young and old - play area, woodland trails and walks.
